Abstract. Pelargonium × hortorum was cultivated in peat and in peat mixed with additional composted sewage sludge media. Geraniums planted in medium with the compost were grown as well as in standard, peat-based medium.
Key words:
Pelargonium × hortorum, municipal sewage sludge, industrial waste
Summary
Two cultivars of Pelargonium × hortorum – ‘Diabolo’ and ‘Bravo’ were cultivated in five media: in peat with Osmocote Plus, in peat substrate for geranium`s cultivation, in mixtures (v:v = 1:1) of peat and composts consisting of sewage sludge 35%, potato pulp 35% and straw 30% or sawdust 30% and in peat and composted sewage sludge. The plants were measured five weeks after planting.
The plants cultivated in mixtures of peat and composts were high and had as many leaves as the plants in peat medium. In no medium significant differences in diameter of the plants were found. At the time of the measurement the highest value of green index had the plants cultivated in peat with Osmocote Plus.
